15 National Chains with Drop-off Recycling Programs

Only half of Americans have access to curbside recycling and even then, there are still plenty of recyclable goods being sent to landfills. This list includes popular chains that have recycling programs available to their patrons.

  • Target

    Target stores have a guest recycling station located in the front of each store. The station is available for bottles, cans, plastic films, and small device electronics recycling.

  • Ikea

    Ikea will take cardboard, lightbulbs, domestic batteries, paper packing and plastic drink containers. They also provide a service that takes away and recycles old mattresses, couches, kitchens and electrical appliances when you purchase new from Ikea.

  • Whole Foods Market

    Drop off batteries, plastic bags, toothbrushes, corks and #5 plastics like Brita filters and yogurt containers.

  • Home Depot

    In store recycling bins accept cardboard, rechargable batteries, CFL or LED lightbulbs, and plastic bags.

  • Lowe's

    In store recycling bins accept CFL (Compact Flourescent Light) bulbs, rechargeable batteries, cell phones and plastic bags.

  • Best Buy

    Drop off electronics, cameras, cell phones and more. There is also a $25 haul away option for bigger electronics. Get a coupon for 15% off a networking device when you recycle a modem, router or modem/router combo.

  • Staples

    Although temporarily suspended for Covid-19, Staples collects an array of electronics as well as ink cartridges and reusable batteries.

  • Apple

    Trade in your eligible device for credit toward your next purchase, or get an Apple Gift Card you can use anytime. If your device isn’t eligible for credit, they’ll recycle it for free.

  • H&M

    Drop your bag of unwanted clothing in the recycling box at your local store. All textiles are welcome – any brand, any condition – even odd socks, worn-out T-shirts and old sheets. For every bag of textiles, you’ll receive a discount card for 15% off your next in-store purchase.

  • Nike

    Nike accepts any brand of athletic sneakers, but they are unable to recycle sandals, dress shoes, boots, or shoes with metal (like cleats or spikes).

  • The North Face

    Recycle your used apparel and footwear (any condition, any brand) at their stores and earn a $10 reward toward your next purchase of $100 or more at The North Face.

  • Madewell

    Bring in a pair of old jeans, any brand and Madewell will recycle them into housing insulation and give you $20 off a new pair.

  • Levi's

    Consumers may drop-off any brand of clean, dry clothing or shoes in the collection boxes at their local Levi’s store and receive a voucher for 20% off a single, regular-priced Levi’s item in-store.

  • Nordstrom

    Nordstrom accepts empty bottles, tubes and caps from any brand of hair care, skin care, and makeup products.

  • Advance Auto Parts

    Bring in an old car battery and receive a $10 store credit. They also accept used automotive oil.
